July 28, 2009: I caved . . . but give me some credit

Yes. I went to Borders. Yes. I had a coupon for 30 percent off any one item. Yes. I spent an hour browsing through the shelves and shelves of books. Yes. Even though I have no money, I went anyway. And yes. I found myself at the check-out counter.

However, you can give me some credit here. This is the first time all summer I've entered Borders, only the second time I've purchased a book all summer long. I've been Borders-sober up until yesterday around noon. I found several books I wanted to purchase but restrained myself and only bought one, a book I knew I'd like based on the recommendation of my sister.

I've been home since April 25 and haven't gone into Borders until July 29. And I bought only one book. That's control.

You did your best, and no one can blame you for this little slip.

Despite previously extolling the virtues of the library, I found myself in Borders today and, like you, whittled my wants down to one. Good for us.

I can really relate....ask your mom when Aunt Patti went on a "shopping fast" of sorts for months! She made her kids do all of the shopping, eve grocerys! No new clothes, shoes, books, grapes,or haircuts!!

Holy Moly! I tried it once for a month....but I haven't been shopping once since I was in Denver! It's no fun.

Here's a great website for bibliophiles like we are: paperbackswap.com. It is AWESOME! You register and post books you are willing to part with. You get credits for books you mail to others and then other people mail you the books for which you are searching. You can even have a wish list. The best part is that you send the books by media mail, so it is a little over 2 dollars, which is much cheaper than regular mail or buying a new book. Sign up! You'll love it!

Given the circumstances of that particular day, no one can blame you for falling off the wagon, so to speak!
